Bronze, brass, iron & steel

We work in six metals and often combine them in one piece: an iron railing under a bronze handrail, brass balusters on a black steel stringer. Here is what each one brings.

Bronze

A copper alloy with a deep, warm brown tone. Exceptionally durable, it never rusts and is the natural ground for an antique bronze patina. Our speciality for handrails, posts and castings.

Brass handrail and sculpted brass balusters

Brass

Brighter and more golden than bronze. Brass can be polished to a mirror, brushed to a soft satin or aged to a mellow gold, and pairs beautifully with dark steel and wood.

Forged iron railing with rings, scrolls and cast ornaments

Forged iron

Heated and hammered at the anvil into scrolls, twists, collars and leaves that no machine can reproduce. The heart of traditional wrought iron work.

Black steel stair railing with square balusters

Steel

For crisp contemporary railings, structural stringers and frames. Strong and precise, finished in black patina, paint or powder coat.

Stainless steel stair railing with glass panels

Stainless steel

For contemporary railings and glass balustrades that must stay bright with minimal care, indoors or out.

Aluminum

Light and naturally corrosion-resistant, a good choice for exterior railings, fences and gates in coastal climates, finished in durable powder coat.

Moulds & castings

Custom castings

When a design calls for a leaf, a bracket or a rosette that cannot be bought, we make the mould ourselves and cast it in bronze, brass or iron.

It is how we reproduce a historic ornament to restore a railing, and how a motif from your architecture can become part of your gate.

Every piece is finished by hand. The finish sets the colour, the light and the way the metal ages.

    Our signature: a warm, layered brown with highlights where hands polish the metal.

    A soft, even sheen for bronze, brass and stainless steel.

    A bright, mirror finish for brass and bronze accents.

    Black & oil-rubbed

    Matte or satin black, waxed or oiled, for classic ironwork.

    Gilded accents

    Gold or bronze highlights on selected castings and ornaments.
